Hakkasan Mumbai recently celebrated its two year anniversary with a new menu. It threw its doors wide open and dared anyone to find fault with the food.
We decided to go for dinner on a Monday night – after all, what better way to beat the Monday blues than looking forward to a night full of dimsum, duck and drinks!
We were seated at the bar, which was a welcome change from our last meal there where I was afraid to raise my voice above a whisper. The music was light and kept my feet tapping all night (hey I made a rhyme!). We were given the anniversary menu as well as the a la carte menu and told to order carte blanche. Yay!
I’m a fan of anything steamed, and my dinner companion is a fan of anything fried. We compromised, and ordered it all.
The golden fried soft shell crab with egg threads, curry leaf and chilli was interesting. I’ve only ever had soft shell crab in sushi rolls, but this is a dish I think I’d order again. Some of the batter was a little too burnt, which gave the crab a slightly bitter flavor but the rest of it was actually ‘golden fried’ and wonderfully soft. Avoid the egg threads at the bottom of the plate, they're little more than egg that's been beaten and then dribbled into hot oil, giving you an oily fried taste.
hey excellent post!!
